About 5.15pm a Mitsubishi Triton ute was travelling west along Melbergen Road, approaching the intersection of Back Hillston Road.
When it reached the intersection, the ute collided with a road train travelling north along Back Hillston Road.
Emergency services were notified and arrived a short time later, however the 65-yearold driver of the ute died at the scene.
The 65-year-old male truck driver was not injured in the crash.
Both vehicles were taken for mechanical examination.
Police from Griffith Local Area Command are investigating the circumstances
surrounding the crash and will prepare a report for the Coroner.
Carrathool Shire Mayor Peter Laird said he was shocked by the news.
“It’s tragic that we’ve lost him,” Councillor Laird said.
“I hope everyone will take care when they’re travelling within our shire area and observe all the speed limits because we seem to have had a spate of accidents,” Cr Laird said.
“We don’t need any more accidents.”
