Interest in the time-honoured competition has flagged, with just one entrant so far this year.
The lone entrant, Jasmine John, has issued a challenge to others aged 18 to 25 to step up and enter.
"Why not have a go? It's a great way to represent Griffith and to help paint our city in a positive light," Ms John said.
"Griffith has so much to offer and it just seems to me like a great opportunity to let others know about it.
"It would be an absolute shame to lose something that is such a tradition in Griffith. I think it would be a great honour to represent the town. The prizes are great and the professional and community relationships you form make it worth taking part too."
Griffith Show Society president Juley Jackson said as far as she was aware Griffith had never missed a year.
"Thankfully we have Jasmine entered this year, which is great, but we'd like to see more girls," she said.
"I think it's an important part of our community and the girls go on to get so much out of it. I've watched the shyest girls come through, who by the end of the show weekend just blossom.
"I am worried about the future of the competition and it makes me wonder what Griffith girls think is involved.
"They just need to know a bit about their community; it's not a beauty pageant, we are just looking for open, friendly girls who know that The Land sponsors the competition."
Mrs Jackson said they were already looking at ways to try and entice entrants next year, with an overhaul planned.
The Showgirl Cocktail party wil be held this Saturday at Woodside Hall and girls still have time to enter this year's competition.
"Judging won' t be done until the show weekend now," Mrs Jackson said.
"That way we hope to get more entrants."
