The 11-year-old St Patrick’s Primary School student qualified for the event by winning four gold medals at the NSW PSSA championships held in Sydney in April.
She won gold medals in the 50-metre freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m breaststroke and 50m butterfly, earning selection in the NSW Swim Team.
It will be the talented swimmer’s first time competing at a national level.
Sara said she was looking forward to competing after gaining selection at the state championships.
“I felt good (after the championships), I was proud of myself,” she said.
Sara is also a talented runner, but has decided to focus her efforts on swimming.
“I like being in the water, I just love it,” she said.
Freestyle and butterfly are her favourite strokes.
Sara trains twice a week and swims laps, as well as focusing on technique.
Her mother, Lizl Negus, said Sara had always had a natural ability when it came to swimming.
“From the moment she was born she has always loved being in the water,” Lizl said.
Sara will compete in eight events in Melbourne next week.
She will contest the 50m freestyle, 50m backstroke, 50m butterfly, 100m backstroke, 200m individual
medley, the freestyle relay, medley relay and all age medley relay aged 10-19 years.
