About 6:25pm, police and firefighters were called to the building on Ulong Street following reports of a fire.
All staff members had left the building prior to the fire and no one was injured in the blaze.
A number of local streets were closed while the fire was brought under control and extinguished. The building sustained extensive fire, smoke and water damage as a result of the fire.
The Area News is published by Fairfax Regional Media and is a sister publication of The Daily Advertiser.
A crime scene has been established and will be examined by specialist forensic officers.
Detectives from Griffith Local Area Command are continuing their investigations into the fire which is being treated as suspicious.
They are calling for anyone who witnessed the fire or has information about how it started to contact police. Inspector Stuart Gair said it was fortunate that no one was injured in the blaze.
“Investigations into the fire will be extensive including a thorough forensic examination of the scene.
“At that time of night there would have been a large amount of motorists and people travelling past the building on Ulong Street.
“They may have seen some unusual or suspicious behaviour and I would urge anyone with information that could assist us with inquiries to come forward,” said Inspector Gair.
