Memes pages are popping up faster than you can click "like" and Griffith Memes has attracted thousands of fans since it was created last Wednesday.
The page is a virtual noticeboard for quirkily condescending locals who share a love-hate relationship with the town they call home.
Playing up Griffith's most prominent stereotypes, the site is filled with witty quips poking fun at a side of the city not found in the tourism brochures. But despite the drug references and thinly veiled racism, there is an indisputable element of pride among the posts.
"Agrees to one-on-one fight - calls cousins before fight", "police don't always pick on me, but mentioning you're from Griffith incurs a complementary strip search", and "roundabouts that aren't round you can't explain that" are just a few.
The Area News didn't escape the craze, with local man Brett Naseby producing this comic masterstroke: "Just read the paper, all four pages!".
Local technology expert Will Morris said the popularity of Memes was simply due to the fact "they're hilarious".
"There's this thinly veiled anonymity if you were to sit in a room with 20 other people and make those comments, there'd probably be consequences," Mr Morris said.
"But it is fun sometimes to get on people's nerves and I think that's what this is about."
Mr Morris said Facebook had almost replaced Google as a go-to for information.
"There's so much content on there from people's friends they can spend hours browsing and never even leave Facebook," he said.
"I think people are more likely to stand by what they say because it can quite easily be traced back to them."
