season will be on the line when they travel to Hay to take on cellar-dwellers RARC tomorrow.
In a bitterly disappointing year to date, the Blacks have struggled to match most of the competition, but this weekend Griffith will have their best chance to return to the winner’s circle.
But Robertson said if the side doesn’t perform how he knows they can, they might as well “shut up shop”.
“If we don’t win we might as well take up women’s netball, but we probably wouldn’t even win that,” he said.
“If we can’t win this one we might as well shut the doors.”
While Robertson believes his squad has the skill to challenge the top teams in the comp, he said their lack of commitment is letting the entire club down, with less than half of them turning up to training in recent weeks.
“Last Tuesday I had 16 guys show up, this week there were only 12 but on the weekend nearly 40 guys turned up to play,” he said.
“About eight guys rang to tell me they couldn’t make it so where were the other 20? They’re letting their team down, they’re letting their club down and they’re letting their coach down. I don’t see how they can turn their season around if 20 of them just can’t be bothered turning up.
“They’ll end up with no club, no coach and no one will want to play with them and that’s unfair to the guys who turn up and put 110 per cent in while the others only put five per cent in.”
Robertson said the commitment and willingness of the men who turn up to training more than made up for the others but warned you can’t win a match with just 12 men.
“We can’t even do a fitness session because we haven’t got the guys to hold the bags, it’s a waste of bloody time,” he said.
“Michael Jones turned up after long hours driving the truck and trained in his work boots, Carl Tag trained with a broken nose –unless the others have work commitments they’ve got no excuse.”
But despite the lack of turn-out at the Blacks’ training session, Robertson was confident of coming away with a win this Saturday and hoped that would inspire the team to get back on the training paddock.
“I’m confident we will win,” he said.
“Reports of RARC are they’re struggling for numbers and the poor guys are being walloped every weekend.
“We need to use this weekend to put into practice the set plays we’ve been doing at training. We need to stick to the game plan and keep our heads so the guys can get the confidence to know what we have been practising does work and it’s not just me dribbling nonsense.”
