In recognition of the Sikh community and Country Education Foundations (CEF) annual Curry and Jam event, the initiative was awarded Community Project of the Year at the Griffith City Council 2022 Australia Day Ceremony.

Now in its sixth year, the annual event raises funds to assist local youth pursue their education goals and further their studies, aiming to sponsor at least 20 students a year through the Country Education Foundation.
Members of the Griffith Sikh community have since the beginning generously donated their time, energy and resources preparing a range of curries and condiments for dinner on the night, all in the name of helping out the local community.
CEF committee member Craig O'Keeffe said that he was 'very pleased' to not only be nominated for an Australia Day award but to win the category in which it was nominated.
" I am particularly pleased to have had the opportunity most importantly to publicly acknowledge the Sikh community and the wonderful work they do for us through our annual Curry and Jam event," Mr O'Keeffe said.
"It is a great partnership."

Bobby Singh has worked on Curry and Jam since its inception some five years ago and said it felt great to be recognised for all the hard work and dedicated the Sikh community invest into the event.
"We have worked on this initiative for almost six years now together alongside the Community Education Foundation and it has been truly amazing," Mr Singh said.
"Curry and Jam really is at the heart of our values as Sikhs in our hearts aim to serve the community and one another, all our ten gurus talk about this."
"With only two months to go, we are all looking forward to our next Curry and Jam event."
The other nominee in the Community Project of the Year was Griffith Lockdown Fun, a Facebook group for community members where they were able to bid on items from local businesses.
Through the efforts of the admin team, the group was able to reinvest an incredible $185,000 from ticket sales and bids back into the local economy and businesses sufferring due to lockdown.
