With a passion for the community driving everything she does, it came as no surprise that university student Nayani Navaneethan was awarded Young Citizen of the Year at this years Australia Day Ceremony.

A driven young woman, who has dedicated countless hours to community service and volunteer based organisations, Miss Navaneethan has made and is sure to continue making a number of outstanding contributions to the Griffith community.
Nominated by the 340 Squadron Australian Air Force Cadets for the time and energy she had invested into the youth orientated organisation, Miss Navaneethan said she was 'deeply humbled' to be the recipient and sole nominee for the award.
"I feel super grateful and I am very appreciative of everyone for nominating me for this work as a result of all the volunteer work I have done," Miss Navaneethan said.
"I am just so happy."

Miss Navaneethan said she hoped to inspire future generations and get them engaged with volunteering and wanting to create a better future for all those who reside in Griffith.
"I would also love to have this be something where other people can have a look and feel encouraged and motivated to do more work in the community as well," Miss Navaneethan said.
Mum Abin Navaneethan said that she was 'beyond proud' of her daughter.
"Proud is an understatement, she has always shown an interest in the community and helping the community ever since she was small," Mrs Navaneethan said.
Her father, Dr Navaneethan echoed his wifes sentiments.
"We are all really proud of her and we thank the Griffith community for recognising her in such a way and letting her serve them," Dr Navaneethan said.
