After both sides traded sets in the opening stage of the first half, it was the Gem Girls who were able to strike first, with Rebecca Groat making the most of a gap in the line of the defence.
It didn't take long for the Gem side to make the most of their momentum with a cutout pass from Eliza Baddock, finding Lara Rossetto open in the corner to double their side's advantage.
Physifitness were able to pull one back almost immediately with Havana Cook getting over after spotting a hole in the middle, but Gem restored their two-try advantage with Baddock getting over.
Cook scored her second of the game right on the brink of the halftime break to see Physifitness trailing 3-2 at the break.
It was a try for try start to the second half as both sides traded blows in the early stages.
The Gem Girls were able to score off the first set of the second half with another cutout pass from Baddock, sending a teammate through with Fapiola Uoifalelahi getting over.
Physifitness hit straight back with Jayda Cook getting over before the Gem Girls hit back with a try to Ella Savage to see Gem Girls leading 5-4.
The Gem Girls were able to secure the win, with Talei Beitaki scoring two late tries to see her side wrap up a 7-4 victory and maintain their place at the top of the table.
It is shaping as a tough fight for the top four positions in the women's top division, with all sides tough to separate after three rounds.

Snows Excavation was able to bounce back from a defeat to the Gem Girls last week as they were able to end the undefeated start to the season for Hunt and Hunt Lawyers with a 7-2 victory.
Meanwhile the Swannies picked up their second straight win to maintain their position in the top four battle with a 12-3 win over Heart Racers.
It sets up a showdown next week with Swannies and Snows Excavation facing off for second place.
Meanwhile, there remain two undefeated teams in the men's top division.
Shane Best Painters were able to keep their perfect record alive with an 8-4 win against the Lightening, while Marchiori Construction also remained unbeaten with a 6-3 win over Point Boys.
Lachlan's Team stayed within touching distance of the top two with a 9-2 win over MIA Plumbing, with Tim's Trim staying in the top four with a 5-3 win over Griffith Real Estate.
Marchiori takes on Tim's Trims next week while Shane Best Painters face-off with the Point Boys.
