The Griffith Golf course re-opened to play last weekend, following the mini tornado that devastated the course, uprooting at least 40 trees and damaging fairways and greens.

A further 35 miles of rain fell on the course on Friday evening, resulting in carts not allowed on the course on Saturday, which saw 62 walkers contest a single stableford. It was played off the white markers, which shortened the course by around 400 meters.
Mike Coleman carded 41 points to win A Grade, draining birdies on the first and 17th. Tony McBride 39 points runner-up also birdieing the first.
James Wythes 40 points best in B Grade, 21 points out and 19 home ahead of Kierren Elvy 37 points second with seven three-pointers on a countback over John Harrison 37 points.
Riley Townsend 39 points won C Grade, 20 points out and 19 home, carding nine three-pointers from Mark O'Connor 36 points, nailing a birdie on the 17th on a countback over Greg Collins 36 points.
John Brennick won the 4th pin, Tony McBride 7th, Greg Collins 11th, Justin Robertson 16th.
A medley single stableford again off the white markers with a field of 57 players and along with the lack of trees, saw some extraordinary scores returned, none better than Jason Waring-Bryant effort in C Grade.
He plays off 24 and fired 81 off the stick for 50 points, carding nine pars. Tom Wright carded 40 points for runner-up.
In A Grade Sim Tuitivake fired two under par 69 to take the win on 41 points. Ben Jeffery 40 points runner-up.
Bryan Corner 40 points best in B Grade ahead of Barry Northeast 37 points.
Pins won by 7th Taoloa Toru, 11th Mark Townsend, 8th Steve Matheson.
With more heavy rain expected this week, golfers should contact the Pro Shop on 69623742 in regards to whether play is allowed and under what conditions.
The Brady Painters Red Gum Plate qualifier will be held this coming Sunday as long as conditions allow. With 32 pairs to qualify with qualifiers not to play their matches prior to the Calcutta on Thursday, January 27.
The Scramble is back with the first of two events to be played on Sunday, February 13. Registration is online with the link attached.

There were 14 Griffith golfers playing in the Summer Classic at Yarrawonga last weekend with Matt Staines again taking the title which he won in 2020 with rounds of 68-69, seven under par 137.
Josh Stapleton failed to capitalise on his first round of six-under-par 66, shooting 72 in the second round, runner-up in scratch with 138. He also won Handicap on 140 nett.
No veterans golf last week, but hopefully it will return tomorrow in a single stableford.
