"You don't win premierships before Christmas," Binks said.
"It's a bit of a rude shock after making the grand final last year, but we've got a young side and a group of blokes who haven't played much together."
He said there was a simple plan for the Panthers as they take on the Ex-Servicemens Eagles at Exies one this weekend, and that's to get time in the middle.
It will be the fifth game the team plays since October thanks to washouts and byes, and Binks said getting in touch with the bat was key.

With around 100 millimetres of rain estimated to have fallen in Griffith during the break, Binks said bowlers may find a little extra bounce on the wicket.
Binks said the oval's curators, who have kept the pitches immaculate so far this season, will have worked to make sure that variability on the wicket isn't detrimental to the game
Binks said while a few of the Panthers would have enjoyed the festive season, fitness wasn't a worry because the Eagles would have the same problem.
"The biggest thing is getting time out in the middle and making sure we're doing everything right that we were doing before Christmas," Binks said.
With this weekend's game being the first of 2022 for the Panthers, Binks said building the momentum with a win would be key and there was no limit on what the team could achieve.
Binks said a few wins under the belt would help propel the team up the ladder and potentially see them return to the finals in March.
The Leagues Club Panthers will play the Ex-Servicemens Eagles from 2pm at Exies one on Saturday.
