At least one day a month, attendees will have help from Griffith FAW members to conceptualise and plan a feature length novel ranging anywhere from 1000 to 50,000 words.

The goal is to assist young writers prepare for the National Writing Month challenge in November that pushes creative minds to write their very own novel in just one month.

President of Griffith FAW Emily Fishenden said that after previously running a young writers competition in October 2021, many parents had said that whilst they loved creative writing, they just didn't have the time for it.

"We had a lot feedback that suggested it would be good to have a writers group in town specifically targeted at children," Mrs Fishenden said.

"Headspace had just opened up their new youth room and were looking for community groups to use it so we got in touch!"

The workshops will cater for any skill level and will provide driven young writers a push in the right direction towards working on their own novel.

"It is more than words on a page, its about getting them to world build, form characters, write plots," Mrs Fishenden said.

"The workshops will provide more in depth knowledge in how creative writing works."

Eleven year old Henry Parsons will be participating in the workshops and told The Area News that he was eager to write a fantasy and action novel.

"Reading has always been an escape from the real world, I am very excited to participate," Henry said.

All completed novels from the year will be printed professionally by Griffith FAW as a thankyou to all who participated.

Workshops will be held monthly on the second Monday of every month starting from January 10 from 4:00pm until 6:30pm at Headspace Griffith.
