After confirming to The Area News just days ago that Uber was not on the cards for regional communities such as Griffith, the global ridesharing juggernaut has backtracked, confirming that the service is available effective immediately.

Locals will now have the opportunity to sign up as drivers and contribute to the gig economy, working as little or as much as they like.
Community members will now have another transport option at the tap of their fingertips, however if driver uptake is slow it is doubtful the ridesharing service will take off.
An Uber spokesperson noted that the service could complement existing transport services on offer in Griffith, especially during peak times.
"For riders, what we see most commonly in regional areas is that ridesharing complements other transport options at times of peak demand, such as Friday and Saturday nights, during holiday periods and major events," they said.

In 2020, the app was supposedly meant to go live across NSW, making it one of the largest geographic locations covered by the service globally however the pandemic halted expansion plans.
"For drivers in regional areas, we see the Uber app as an opportunity for people to earn some extra money on the weekends or during peak tourist periods in their community."
Griffith City Council Mayor Doug Curran said the arrival of the ridesharing service was a 'positive'.
"This is a good things for Griffith residents, I hope they embrace this alternate transport service that is now on offer in our community," Councillor Curran said.
"It is a positive move, and will especially assist in helping visitors get around town and help us 'keep up with the joneses'."
