A promotion sent highlights that with the Christmas period approaching, and NSW opening up after COVID, now is an ideal time to speak to healthcare professionals around HIV awareness, prevention and testing.
"As we start to open up, it is essential that at risk people get tested now. People can get tested easily and confidentially at their local GP or sexual health service," said Alison Nikitas, the HIV & Related Programs Manager for the MLHD.
She added that there are more private options available for those interested.
"Online and home-based testing options include Dried Blood Spot test, a free finger prick test which is mailed to you, and ATOMO self-test kits will be available in pharmacies soon," Ms Nikitas said.
The people at the highest risk of contracting HIV according to NSW Health include gay men, people who inject drugs, people who had tattoos or other piercings overseas using unsterile equipment and anyone who has sex with somebody else with a high risk of HIV.
Anyone covered by that list is being strongly encouraged to get tested.

Chief health officer for NSW Health Dr Kerry Chant, said that while the state has made significant progress in prevention, testing rates were lower than they should be.
"We've come a long way over the last 40 years and have many new tools to help prevent HIV transmission including effective HIV treatment, condoms, sterile injecting equipment, and prevention medication - PrEP," Dr Chant said.
"Early testing and diagnosis linked to treatment prevents transmission and enables people living with HIV to enjoy a long and healthy life."
Information and contact details for the sexual health services in Wagga Wagga, Griffith, & Albury, can be found on the MLHD website.
