Mr Campbell said that after living here for 14 years, he was motivated to 'give something back.'

"I've been here since 2007, the place has been good to me and my wife so I want to be involved - basically, I want to give back however I can," he said.

He explained that he was passionate about addressing the housing crisis currently sweeping Griffith.

"I want to get involved in everything. I have a bit of an interest in promoting more affordable housing - the best way to do that is to build houses and make the process easier ... I'm fairly passionate about that, it's the inflow of workers into the place."

Mr Campbell also highlighted a passion for Griffith Regional Airport, where he used to work as airport coordinator.

"I think it's the gateway to the city. Anything we can do there is good," he said.

"The place could use a cafeteria - Generally it's pretty good, but it's all about good governance in the longterm ... I'd want to encourage folk to use it more, increase some of the publicity."

"The other aspect is the carpark is a bit inadequate, we could find funding for that if it's to be found. That's one of the things that glares at me. There was space for about 100 cars, and on a given day, there might be 150 or 200 cars."

He highlighted that residents would park and get on a flight for a holiday, potentially leaving their cars for days or weeks at a time.

He explained that his choice to run independently was deliberate.

"The motivation behind it was that I thought it was the right fit for me. I'm not denigrating any of the others, but I thought I'd rather be totally independent ... I'm obviously happy to work with whoever is elected but I'd rather keep my independence," Mr Campbell said.

He explained his goals of fixing Griffith Council's relationship with the business chamber and other tiers of government.

"I'm keen to see us work better with other tiers. I don't know that the relationship is great at present, so it can be better. We should be working towards the same ends."
