The application is for the first 'New Generation Boarding House' in Griffith, constructing three new buildings and repurposing a fourth as affordable housing options. The rooms will be self-contained, using a studio design including a kitchenette, en-suite, sleeping area and storage space. The buildings will include communal laundry facilities, open spaces and landscaped areas as well as three rooms designed around accessibility.

While the building will accommodate 68 rooms, the application includes parking for 32 cars along with bike space.

The application was moved to Griffith City Council after two complaints were received regarding the initial application. One complaint said that there should have been more notification given to neighbours, and highlighted possible noise as an issue.

Council said that noise would be the responsibility of an on-site manager, following an approved management plan. Another submission questioned how the house could accommodate such a range of shift workers, families and backpackers.

"It is acknowledged that there will be a variety of occupant boarding at the site. Boarding is based on three month leases or longer. It is likely that some occupants may be employed in shift work ... Rooms will be limited to a maximum of two boarders, though it is likely that many rooms will be leased by a single occupant," they responded.

Council will also be voting on a submission from Banna Lane Festival for sponsorship and support of next year's event. The application noted the response to this year's festival, after a survey showed that the vast majority of patrons said the event was a success.

The recommendation stands for Council to put $20,000 towards the organisation of next year's event and approve in-kind support going forward including organising traffic management for the festival.

The council meeting will take place from 7pm on Tuesday, November 23. The meeting will be livestreamed through the Griffith City Council Facebook page and minutes will be posted on the Griffith City Council website at a later date.
