Mayor John Dal Broi put forward the proposition in response to the recent passing of Peter Bartter, an influential figure in Griffith.
The recommendation proposes renaming the recently completed pathway between Hanwood and Griffith as 'Bartter Path' but also notes 'Bartter Walk' as an alternative.
Council has already consulted with the Geographic Names Board on the suitability of the proposed name, and been advised that it should be acceptable for proposal on the condition that it avoids commercial connections.
If approved, the proposal will be on public display for a month before being submitted to the Geographic Names Board.
The same meeting will address the six proposed names for Ortella Park, coming from fourteen proposals.
The proposals have already been vetted against the existing register.
All accepted proposals have had their suitability and significance Ortella Street area checked, however names selected by Council are still subject to approval and public exhibition by the Geographic Names Board.

Council will also vote on the proposal to put $200,000 towards Memorial Gardens, from the $300,000 previously allocated to the Rose Garden. The pitch has been on public display and discussion, with Griffith City Council receiving seven submissions regarding the money.
While five are in favour of the amendment, with suggestions or requests for involvement. The RSL has formally requested involvement in the allocation and that request is recommended to be approved.
One submission suggests putting the remaining $100,000 to an extension of the art gallery, rather than a new one. Another notes the need for a sound system at Memorial Gardens - it's been noted that a grant application has already been put forward for a sound system.
Two submissions are against the proposal, with one requesting all 300,000 dollars go toward Memorial Gardens with none to the art gallery proposal. Another cites that they would 'prefer the budget to be directed to maintenance of roads, footpaths at Yenda or to grounds at Lake Wyangan.'
The council meeting will take place from 7pm on Tuesday, November 9. The meeting will be livestreamed through the Griffith City Council Facebook page and minutes will be posted on the Griffith City Council website at a later date.
