Mr Toscan, a lifelong resident of the MIA, is running after his retirement last year to try and give back to the community.

"I was a farmer all my life but I've got a lot more time. Thought about running for council a few years ago, decided to run this year to serve the community," he explained.

"I just want to improve the place the best way we can. We can always be more efficient at council. Each council has it's dramas but hopefully we can have a bit of a more progressive one without too much drama."

He explained that the key tenets of his campaign were being approachable, dependable and progressive. Running with Ms Stead brought in the ability to combine their different experiences living in Griffith and working in council.

"I've got the experience of living in the area all my life, she's got experience in council."

Ms Stead has been a councillor for the last eighteen years, as well as serving on various committees. She described herself as a hard worker, first and foremost.

"I'm happy to keep working as a councillor, working tirelessly for the community and representing them," she said.

"I've got experience, I've been on council for eighteen years with an exceptional attendance record."

She added that her goals were to kickstart tourism after the COVID-19 pandemic inhibited it, as well as using that opportunity to revamp Griffith's existing assets.

"You have to look outside - concentrating on tourism after the pandemic. More people will be travelling so that's an opportunity to continue upgrading and maintaining what we've already got," she explained.

"I want to maintain our assets as well as expand business opportunities in Griffith."

"Louis comes from a farming background and brings a lot of knowledge of this area if we're elected."

The pair were originally running with Cassandra Campbell-Smith, however Miss Smith has withdrawn due to other commitments.

"I wish them both luck in the polls," Miss Campbell-Smith said.
