Wet weather led to the bridge partially collapsing in March this year and being subsequently demolished. This has led to a 40-minute-detour for drivers on Burley Griffin Way while planning for a permanent solution took place.

Member for Cootamundra Steph Cooke said that the temporary bridge was sorely needed and that
"We are so pleased this temporary bridge is now in place to allow motorists, including those driving heavy vehicles up to 4.2 metres wide, to once again drive the length of Burley Griffin Way without the need for lengthy and time-consuming delays," Ms Cooke said.
"It's especially significant for the freight industry, as this route links the Hume Highway to the Riverina and the Olympic and Newell highways."

The temporary bridge, created from 210 separate parts, was lowered by crane and attached to the road on either side. Workers found the prolonged wet weather and soft ground posed significant structural problems, but installed an additional steel support structure to ensure safety and stability.
"This is going to vastly improve traffic conditions for motorists while work continues on a permanent solution," Ms Cooke added.
Design work is continuing on a more permanent solution, with a design expected to be finalised by the end of the year.
