The 1000 Books program is aimed at the idea of children reading or being read 1000 books before entering school at the age of five. The books could be regular favourites, or new adventures, but it hinges on the idea that promoting literacy and a love of reading at an early age is key for development.
The library will be offering library bags and assorted prizes as reading milestones are reached.

To kick off the Western Riverina Libraries program, staff held a celebration for children and parents featuring a bouncy castle, face-painting and snacks.
Karen Tagliapietra, the library's manager, said that they'd been impressed with the turnout and enlisted several parents into the program as well as distributed library cards.
"We were worried that we might have to cancel with COVID restrictions, so we were really happy when we checked everything and found that we could go ahead ... we've just been overwhelmed with the positive response," Mrs Tagliapietra said. She added that her favourite book growing up was 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'.

Sharmaine Delgado, the library's community engagement officer agreed.
"We've had a few signed up and people can continue to sign up. Today was just the launch, so anyone can still get in touch with us and sign up for it."
Ms Delgado's favourite book growing up was 'Where is the Green Sheep?'
Emily Crotty attended the event with her mum, and came away with a stack of library books to read at home. She said that Bluey was her favourite, and that she was excited to read "At Home with the Heelers."
