Just before 9pm on October 17, a vacant house on Doherty Place was attended to by Fire and Rescue NSW Station 311, after a neighbour spotted flames and smoke coming out of the premises.

Police confirmed that the neighbour also alleged seeing a young male in the premises just before the fire broke out. The fire was extinguished quickly and fire damage was contained to the carpet in the main living area.

The cause of the fire is currently unknown but is under investigation.

A long-empty house on Heath Crescent was also extinguished, just before 5pm. Firefighters attended the scene to find smoke billowing from the boarded-up dwelling.

Firefighters entered the building and found the seat of the fire in the lounge room. They worked quickly to extinguish it before it spread further.

This is the third house on Heath Crescent to go up since July, with the first being found alight on July 5. The second house was reported ablaze just over a month ago, on September 8.

Both other fires saw the buildings suffer significant structural damage, however the most recent fire was contained and there was little damage to the building as a whole.

It's not yet known whether there are links between the fires, but Griffith police confirmed they were investigating.

"There are a number of premises there that are fire damaged, that's something we're aware of," Inspector Kim Traynor said.

"We've partnered with other groups to look into it."

This morning, a car fire on Kookora Street threatened a number of apartments but was quickly extinguished. Crews attending put exposure protection on the building and put out the fire in the engine bay of the vehicle.
