The initiative was started by Barellan locals Heather and Emil White in lieu of the cancelled Good Old Days Festival scheduled for the October long weekend in an estimated loss of $1.8m for the local economy.

At the event, Clydesdale horses are showcased and used to recreate and celebrate Australia's pioneer heritage.

As part of the project, Mrs White created templates whilst her husband cut them out, to be painted and displayed around the townships.

Binya Resident Jan Evans said than 'in excess' of 30 horses plus small ones were displayed around Barellan with ten more in Binya.

"Once on display, passersby had the opportunity to vote for their favourite horse," Mrs Evans said.

After the votes were counted, Barellan Post Office owners Trish and Phil Wilson were awarded the Barellan favourite display with five horses on the fence whilst Binya Public School students took the reigns, winning with their submissions by just one vote!

The Barellan Working Horse and Good Old Days committee then presented to each winner a photo of the Barellan event.

To welcome in next years event, the 'horses' will go up around the townships of Binya and Barellan once more to herald in the Good Old Days weekend for 2022.
