Giant pumpkin seeds are being gathered and pumpkin patches prepped for the 2022 Griffith Show Giant Pumpkin and Backyard Pumpkin Competition.

There will be two entry categories for juniors (under 16 years old) and open (over 16 years old) for the growing of butternut, jarrahdale, Kent and any other variety of pumpkin not mentioned by the Society.
There will also be a number of Pumpkin Competition Pavilion Classes in categories such as pumpkin scones, pumpkin soup, pumpkin loaf, pumpkin made scarecrows and craft items featuring pumpkins!
Griffith Show Society President Brett Brown said that whilst the show may be cancelled this year, there was still plenty of fun to be had.
"I encourage community members to just have a go at it, it costs nothing to enter and its a tremendous amount of fun," Mr Brown said.

In the 2021 competition, some of the giant pumpkins grown especially for the competition went rotten, so in 2022 the competition has been brought forward from the usual date in May.
"Unfortunately in this years competition lots of pumpkins went rotten before we could harvest them and measure them," Mr Brown said.
"So hopefully by bringing the competition forward we can mitigate this."
