The relay was scheduled to take place at Solar Mad stadium over October 9 and 10, raising money for cancer research and support services. Unfortunately, with the current and ever-increasing cases of COVID-19 across NSW, the event has been postponed but is planned to finally happen next year.
Co-ordinator of the Griffith Relay for Life Tammy Hirst said that while they were disappointed in the decision, it was the right one to make. She added that they were keen to continue fundraising and would find silver linings.
"I'm disappointed, but I believe it's the right move and we want to keep people safe ... We spent 18 months organising it, but this means we can improve it and come up with bigger and better ideas," she said.

Ms Hirst was concerned that COVID-19 had overshadowed other diseases, and left money tight for other groups.
"We very much fly the fact that just because COVID is here, cancer didn't get the memo. It's still here and it's still impacting people ... the fundraising that would have happened previously has meant that the money isn't there. We still have to do our bit, and find a cure. If that means just holding off for another couple months, that's what we do."
While in past years, the Griffith and Leeton relays have been on alternating years, with Griffith's relay held on odd-numbered years and Leeton taking even. This postponement however, puts the two in line.
Ms Hirst said that whether the two events partnered or found other alternatives would depend on how things play out over the next few months.
"All of that will be decided once we know more in regards to dates ... We're still working on the date, we haven't got anything decided as such. We are hoping to announce something in the next two weeks," she said.
While the event may be postponed, the much-anticipated raffle will continue. Tickets are still available and prizes will still be drawn at the event, whenever that may be.
Tickets are available through the 'Raffletix' website and the Relay for Life website remains open for donations.
