With lockdown now being extended until September 10 at the earliest, it's more important than ever to be managing your mental health and being proactive.
The foundation has long offered 'eheadspace,' an online alternative in-person therapy. They've also successfully run a digital work and study program for young people across Australia, but their primary role has been counselling and mental health support.
While handling new work processes and adapting operations for remote working is certainly keeping the centre busy, staff are keen to encourage young people to still reach out and take advantage of the newly introduced remote options.
Sharron Dean from the centre said "Our staff are well adapted to tele-health services and young people will still receive quality support from their headspace Griffith representative ... It is an interesting time for us all as we navigate change and adapt our daily lives to minimise the stressors of these changes."
Ms Dean added that headspace had developed the "Seven Steps for a healthy headspace," for young people (and anyone else) to use in lockdown.
The seven steps include; focusing on activities you enjoyed pre-lockdown, taking time to connect with loved ones, eating healthier foods, increased exercising, improving sleeping habits, limiting amounts of alcohol and drugs, and of course, reaching out for help if needed.
"If you are unsure who to contact for support, ring any of the community service organisations in your community, if they are not the right service to meet your needs they will be able to point you in the right direction," Ms Dean said.
"Headspace Griffith look forward to understanding the challenges and support needs of young people and being able to assist young people to live fulfilling and rewarding lives."
