Police first spotted the stolen car at around 2am on August 23. After the driver failed to pull over, they instigated a pursuit but were forced to terminate the pursuit due to unsafe driving. The Mercedes fled at speeds well over 30km/h above the speed limits.
The car was spotted again at 9pm the following night, and another pursuit followed. This ended in the pursuit being terminated again, at speeds over 50km/h above the limit and further unsafe driving.
Acting Inspector James Whalan said that safety was the priority and the chases had to be terminated for that reason.
