In what was meant to be a special 50 year celebration for the Griffith Jockey Club, the much loved event will once again operate behind closed doors and without the cheering crowds from the community.
President of the Jockey Club, Bernie Connolly said the decision was not made lightly, and that it was 'unfortunate' the day would once more go ahead with spectators.
"The health and safety of the community needs to be our primary concern and as such we will conduct our race day with only essential committee members and in accordance with NSW Health and Racing NSW COVID guidelines," Connolly said.
"Whilst the races themselves must continue as an industry we are completely devastated that this will be our second year in a row where we haven't been able to put on a wonderful event for the Griffith community."

The event was also unable to be postponed to a later date and this would interfere with the dates of future events booked in by the Jockey Club.
"We know how much this town loves our race day, just as much as we love putting it on for you and this year we had planned some really new and exciting things to add into the race day you know and love," Connolly said.
"We now carry these forward again into hopefully a safer and healthier 2022."
