That is exactly what happened when JBS Riverina held a fundraising street stall in honour of their late mate and former staff member Micheal Ingram.
Mr Ingram died on July 14 following a tragic accident at Barellan where a driver of a truck was arrested as a result.
Staff members pulled together to make the street stall and barbecue a success, while residents turned out in droves to buy up big and also donate on the day.
JBS Riverina plant manager Brett Meads was blown away by the support shown on the day.
"We wanted to do something to help Micheal's family ... while he wasn't working with us at the time, he had so many friends who still did," Mr Meads said.
"The idea of a fundraiser was put forward, we put it on Facebook and it really just blew us away.
"We had one family donate $450. It was just incredible."
Member's of Mr Ingram's family also dropped by on the day, as well as Leeton shire mayor Paul Maytom.
In just one morning, thousands of dollars was raised for his family, as well as the Leeton Community Op Shop and will be divided at discretion.
JBS Riverina already has an association with the op shop, often donating meat to its cannery kitchen to help supply meals, as well as provide for the store's "pay it forward" initiative.

Mr Meads said he would like to see the organisation continue to assist and help the community where possible. "We certainly live in such a generous community," he said.
"On Saturday there were just people lined up down the street, all waiting their time to donate or buy something from the barbecue.
"We've already started discussing the idea of holding something similar once every six months and choosing a different charity to donate to."
Mr Meads thanked everyone who supported the event and said he hoped the money would help provide a small comfort to Mr Ingram's grieving family.
He commended JBS staff and Mr Ingram's former team members for the way they responded to the cause, making large donations themselves and purchasing plenty of raffle tickets.
