Western Riverina Arts appointed Kerri Weymouth their artist of the month for July, celebrating her wide portfolio of work.

Kerri Weymouth has been creating all her life, in a variety of forms. She's currently taken on work in textiles and handicraft, and recently crafted an impressive life-scale mural for the Wiradjuri walking trail.

The project was a particularly notable one for her, as a connection to her hometown in Darlington Point.

"It was great working with the community and collaborating. It was especially meaningful because I grew up in Darlington Point," she said.

She's also been working with Tirkandi Inaburra and the Western Riverina College on murals. She's been working with WRC to craft a mural commemorating NAIDOC week and partnered with the boys at Tirkandi Inaburra for murals on their new buildings.

It's because of this work that she was nominated as artist of the month by Western Riverina Arts, being described by them as one of the region's leading art practitioners.

Her next big project might be her most ambitious yet, building an art therapy business out of the new community centre. Her goal is to bring attention to the benefits of art for health.

She said "Hopefully I'll be able to help people. I'm passionate about how good art can be for mental health."

When asked if she had advice for any artists, she said that you had to enjoy the process as much as the finished product.

"You can always go over it or do something different. When you're a kid, you're freer and then people lose that confidence as they get older ... Just have a go and don't worry about it. Just enjoy the process of creating."
