After signing a three-year deal with Canterbury last week, Pangai will start a three-month stint at the foot of the mountains next week when he runs out against the Sydney Roosters.

Haas says the Panthers' high standards and, in particular, working under defensive coach Cameron Ciraldo will be a huge benefit to Pangai.

"Him going to Penrith for the next few months will help him a lot, especially with a guy like Cameron Ciraldo there - he's a real good defence coach.

"That's all Tevita needs to work on, his attack is there, he's one of the most damaging ball runners in the competition and just his effort on effort, he's got to keep working on that.

"Him at Penrith is going to suit him well there for the next couple of months and he can take that into the Bulldogs from the experience he learns from them."

Pangai has a horror judiciary record, serving long bans both this year and last following ill-discipline in defence.

While he is one of the most dynamic back-row attackers in the game with more offloads than any other player this year, his defence remains an issue.

He has averaged more than two misses per game for the past three seasons, making more defensive errors than almost all of the other Broncos big men.

Pangai's exit came after a drawn-out period, including meeting with Wests Tigers officials after being on the outer at Brisbane following off-field issues last year.

"At the start it was pretty hard to take," Haas said.

"We're pretty close mates, he's like a brother to me. But the end of the day it's a business.

"I'm happy for him, he's got his future sorted and both ways they did it out of respect which was pretty good."
