Located in City Park on the corner of Kookora Street and Murrumbidgee Avenue, the garden has a wide variety of vegetables and herbs with plenty room for more to be planted and harvested.

And while the club cares for the garden, members of the public are invited to come down and plant their own herbs and vegetables to share with the local community.

Member of the club Vicki Stonestreet suggested creating a community garden in its current location late last year.

And with a generous donation of seedlings from Bunnings and soil from Griffith Bricks and Pavers there were able to start planting.

"The community garden is not only good for club members but for the community because we can all come together through gardening and enjoying some fresh vegetables," Mrs Stonestreet said.

Bok choy, broccoli, cabbage, celery, spring onion and beetroot are just a handful of what is currently planted, with garden space available for more vegetable varieties.

Another member of the club, Merveen Sjollema said that so far the response had been great, however the club wanted to encourage more community members to get involved.

"Everyone is welcome to share the space, plant whatever you like and watch it grow!," Mrs Sjollema said.

"The garden is planted by the community for the community," she continued.

Valeria O'Meara, also from the Griffith Avanti club, said that as winter wraps up, the club was excited to start planting winter crops and encouraged community members to do the same.

"In the next few months we would like to increase the amount of awareness currently out there as to what we are doing, and how Griffith residents can get involved" Mrs O'Meara said.

"The garden really does create such a wonderful sense of community."

On July 10, the club also held their changeover event for the year which saw Peter Sparks take the reigns from Sue Reynolds as the next President of the club.
