The development is for two demountables and was initially presented to Griffith City Council on March 26 but rejected and resubmitted.

At this week's council meeting, many residents attended to protest the development on the grounds that it doesn't match the street's character.

The development, being under the crown, is not eligible to be refused by Griffith council and must be refused by Melinda Pavey - the Minister for Water, Property and Housing.

As a result, the application has been referred to the Western Regional Planning Panel.

Council's general manager Brett Stonestreet said that while the issue was out of council's hands, he encouraged residents of the street to reach out to the panel themselves.

He particularly noted that if the panel receives 10 letters of objection, they will be obligated to hold a public meeting on the topic.

Councillor Anne Napoli added that council was in favour of the development and urged to make it clear that the issue was simply of nuance and design.

One particular letter given to council from a nearby resident outlines complaints.

"We feel that moveable buildings will not fit into the area, so we strongly object to the DA. The style and appearance of the relocatable homes are not compatible with those of the neighbouring properties," the letter reads.

"In closing we strongly object to the application at 46 Lawford Crescent for two moveable, three bedroom buildings. We would welcome to have a single building that was there before."

A letter from Lee Jagou, the project manager, has addressed many concerns, particularly regarding questions posed about fire safety and the neighbouring properties.

"The AHO would also be open to constructing a brick dwarf wall (in lieu of cladding) around the footings underneath each dwelling to complement neighbouring properties," the letter read.
