Griffith Fire and Rescue NSW [FRNSW] crews were called to the Davidson Place unit in Collina at about 4:37pm on Sunday.
After investigating the scene, the crews cut open the garage door in order to gain better access to the fire and began work extinguishing the blaze.
Griffith FRNSW captain Danielle McKay said the fire damaged some property being stored in the garage, filling the room with smoke and significantly lowering visibility for firefighters.
Despite the conditions, fire crews were able to bring the blaze under control within an hour and managed to prevent it from spreading into the adjacent unit.
The bulk of the damage was contained to the garage area, which suffered significant smoke damage and melted electricals.
The cause of the fire is currently being investigated.
