The redevelopment has been in the works since 2017, but early phase and preliminary construction is planned to be completed by the end of the year. This will include a new non-clinical services building, as well as temporary paediatrics units to prepare for scheduled closing and rebuild of the current building.
A temporary carpark is set to open later this month in order to support hospital operations while work continues.
Senior site manager Greg Aird said that the site was in good shape - he was particularly proud of the NCS building and temporary paediatrics.
"The roof's nearly completed, we've just got one small bit up the back left to go. Electrical and plumbing are both in as well so it's close." he said about the NCS building.
The NCS building will also include an in-house mortuary with high-tech preservation systems.

The temporary paediatrics building is split into two sides for patients, with single rooms on one and double rooms on the other. All rooms are equipped with ensuites, and the team has also sourced several entertainment systems to include in the rooms.
Hutchinson Builders haven't been contracted to complete the entire project, but it is certainly a possibility. Tender release for primary construction is set for later this year.
The redevelopment project recently lodged their state significant development application for public exhibition and approval. Construction on the clinical services building is expected to begin in 2022.
