Last week, Griffith City Council announced the $7.3 million overhaul of Boorga Road would begin on June 15 - bringing an end to a passionate push from users of the road who have been calling improvements for over 30 years.
One of these residents is wheat grower Rodney Guest, who said the sealing of the rough, uneven gravel road is good news for the safety of drivers.
"It's great both for the maintenance of our cars and for the safety factor as well," Mr Guest said.
"I've had a couple of my own cars lost when other people have driven them on Boorga Road and there's probably four or five rollovers every year."
Mr Guest said it was "amazing" no one had been killed on the road and he was looking forward to seeing the surface upgraded over the coming months.
IN OTHER NEWS:
The works will be carried out across three stages. The first stage includes works on the stretch of Boorga Road between New Farms Road and Frazer Road and is expected to wrap up in October.
Council's director of infrastructure and operations Phil King says users of the road will need to use detours while works take place.
"We understand that this may cause delays and some frustration, however it is essential so that we can carry out the works efficiently, which includes drainage, relocation of utilities, and pavement construction," Mr King said.
Mr Guest offered his praise to council for reaching out and listening to the concerns of the users of the road.
"I really commend council for having that consultation meeting with the users of the road," he said.
"It was really good of them to get our involvement because we're the users of the road and we know where the bad points are and the places where it floods."
The farmer was also thankful to Member for Murray Helen Dalton and the assistance she had provided in getting the residents' concerns noted.
