Tinworth took out the crown in a match against Isabella Mason from Wollongong, who she says put up a hell of a game. Tinworth herself is from Albury, and has been visiting Griffith for the tournament for many years.

She said that competing against younger players kept her on her toes, however consistent play and a solid grasp on the fundamentals gave her the edge.

"I was up against some young people so they definitely gave me the runaround, but consistency is key," she said.

Tinworth particularly loved the clay courts at the club, saying that they had good bounce and were more reliable than the grass that's often used instead.

"I think it's one of my favourite tournaments, we don't play on clay very much in Albury. It's a happy surface!"

This brings an end to Tinworth's streak of getting close to her second victory but being pipped at the post. In recent years, she's had a string of runner-ups and finalist placings, losing a particularly close match to Grace Schumacher in 2016.

"Feels really good to get back over the line, especially for the 100 year celebration," she said.
