Police have charged a man after he was caught with more than 50 kilograms of illegal drugs while driving along the Sturt Highway.

The 65-year-old man was pulled over on the Sturt Highway near Hay at about 5:30pm on Tuesday afternoon after police checks revealed his vehicle was unregistered.
During a search of his vehicle, police uncovered more than 30 kilograms of methamphetamine, more than three kilograms of cocaine and almost three kilograms of heroin.

Officers also found 11 kilograms of a brown substance and two kilograms of another substance believed to be prohibited drugs which was found hidden underneath tiles and paint.
The collection of illicit substances and the vehicle were taken by police and will undergo further analysis.
After being arrested and taken to Hay Police Station, the man was charged with three counts of large commercial drug supply and driving an unregistered vehicle.
He was formally refused bail while appearing at Griffith Local Court by audio visual link yesterday and will reappear in court on Wednesday, July 28.
