Griffith City Council opened the cycleway at what might be the symbol for the cycling track, the new bridge over main drain J.
The cycleway is four and a half kilometres long, and cost just under 1 and a half million to complete. $350,000 of that money came from Griffith City Council, with the remaining funding coming from a Transport NSW grant.

The director of infrastructure and operations Phil King said that the bridge was significant for a number of reasons.
"The reason we're here at this structure is because we believe this bridge is the only one of it's kind in Australia. It's concrete filled steel tubes, popular in Europe and Asia but we haven't found another in Australia ... we're really proud of this bridge."
Councillor John Dal Broi said that transport infrastructure like the cycleway was key to good planning.
"As a City we need connective infrastructure such as the Hanwood Cycleway for transport options to get to and from work as well as the opportunity to enjoy a healthier lifestyle by walking or biking," he said in a statement.
The cycleway development also included additional streetlights and pedestrian refuges to ensure safety for pedestrians and cyclists.
