The "Claire's 100kms in May" fundraiser was inspired by her dad, Andrew Beer, who passed away from pancreatic cancer in 2019. Miss Beer is walking and jogging around her home in Coleambally, as well as her work in Berrigan.
Miss Beer was appreciative of the care her dad received from the Regional Cancer Centre, and started her fundraiser in order to give back to the facility.
"It has such good facilities, I want to make other people feel comfortable and let people know that it's okay to go there even though it's not the easiest thing in the world," Miss Beer said.
"The harsh reality is that I know it won't bring Dad back ... But if in his legacy, I can raise funds to help other local families impacted by cancer, and make their journey a little easier... then I've hit my target."

This isn't the first fundraiser Miss Beer done for cancer support services, having raised money for CanCare in May last year. Her goal then was to walk 66 kilometres, in recognition of her dad being 66 years old when he died.
She ended up walking over 90kms, which pushed her to aim for 100 this year. She's on track to hit the target as well, having walked just over 50 kilometres so far.
Claire's goal is to hit $2500 in donations, and is close to $1000 for her jogging efforts. In addition to her walking fundraiser, she's selling raffle tickets to win a fire pit donated by Berrigan Economy Harrows.
There will also be a trivia night at the Berrigan Golf Club on June 4. More information on the night is available online.
