The relatively small group of limit riders - Michael Wynne, Bronwyn Jones and Moreno Chiappin were going to need to work hard doing turns together to maintain their 9 minute 30 advantage over Scratch group's Malcom Blake, Craig Tilston and Nige Dunstone.
Riding off 1 minute 30 were Chopping Block's Alan Jones, Chris Fuchs, Mat Smith and Mitch Harrison.
Having the advantage of numbers, Group Three with Matthew Nugan, Brad Hart, Steve Bertoldo, Adrian Piccoli, Brendan Sinclair and Dick Hore were riding off 5 minutes.
