It's hoped that this will keep the industry afloat in the regions and slow the 'brain drain' currently affecting it. Many are travelling to the capital cities to access the degree, and going on to live in the cities permanently.

The degree will be offered as a three-year full-time course, requiring 24 units of study to complete including rural, residential and commercial valuation, as well as courses on law and town planning.

Students with existing property valuation qualifications can apply for credit for up to two years off the degree.

The course will be offered virtually by property valuation teacher Jon Frost, who's excited at the prospects this could bring.

"Property valuation is a great industry to get into and about 80 per cent of graduates are working in the industry by the time they finish the degree," Mr Frost said.

Current property valuers are also keen for the course to start putting out graduates, increasing the workforce.

Chairman of the committee of the Australian Property Institute Bob Allan said "We want prospective valuers to be able to study here, work part time while they're studying to get practical skills and work experience and at the end of their degree, get full-time jobs."
