The awards are run by Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine, who tour the country to find particularly special winery experiences. This competition is divided into states and individual regions, including the Riverina.
This year's grand winner for Star Cellar Door & Best Food is Yarran Wines, impressing judge Amy Northcott with "vibrant" wines and a "refreshing enthusiasm for tourism." A 2018 Block Series Yenda Durif was singled out as an outstanding wine, along with glowing reviews for other bottles.
The manager of Yarran Wines, Katie Brown was hopeful about the possibilities the award might bring for the region.
"It's not just for us; we're really happy to see the region represented, and hopefully bring some tourism out here. Our team has worked very hard to build a unique experience out here."
Miss Brown attributed the win to the unique experience they offer for tourists and wine connoisseurs.
"It's a very personalised experience, to be able to look out and see that it was grown out there while you drink it in here."

Other winners of the event include Calabria Family Wines, who took out the award for best large cellar door, and Lillypilly Estate Wines, taking home best small cellar door.
For best tasting experience, Mino & Co swept the judges away and best additional cellar door experience was won by regular favourite De Bortoli.
Carrah Lymer, who is the executive officer for Emerge Creative Agency and oversees marketing for the Riverina Winemakers Association, said that she was thrilled with the results.
"Our Riverina cellar doors have really focused on developing premium and regionally focused cellar door experiences that showcase not only themselves but what we as a region excel at... it is so pleasing that Gourmet Traveller Wine magazine got to visit our region and discover this in time for the 2021 awards."
