Why are we so reluctant to do something about it yet so judgmental towards those who do?
I fear in the current world where we have our say on social media platforms, we are mistaking this privilege for being actively involved in the things that affect us.
For example, we might believe posting beautiful posts of hope and healing is somehow our contribution to a more peaceful society.
We might post an opinion about local matters or politics and mistake this for our contribution to activism. But is it really? And what can we do to be more present and involved in things that matter to us? And what is the reward for doing so?
Values are at the core of who we are and what we deem important. When we are in a relationship we create shared values. Our personal and shared values represent aspects of who we are and what makes us tick.
MORE TEA AND TALK
People around us are always trying to convince us their values are more important than ours and we should adopt theirs. This is where conflict arises - one opinion against another.
Some people are willing to put themselves out there and have their voices heard. They will abandon risk and consequence for the greater cause. Others will quietly and/or actively support them behind the scenes. Some will ridicule, judge and target them.
For those of us who judge and ridicule, maybe we need to ask ourselves what we are doing to create change and improve matters. Are we prepared to go out and actually 'do' something or are we waiting for someone else to do it and expecting them to do it our way?
There is no greater reward than investing in something because you believe in it. Maybe its time we left the keyboard and joined the action for a while.
