Emergency services were called to the incident on the Sturt Highway near Carrathool around 8am on Sunday.
It is believed her car left the road before hitting a tree, leaving her trapped.
Five ambulance crews and the Hay unit SES were among those in attendance.
"The force of the crash was enough to snap a tree trunk clean in two. She's fortunate that she wasn't killed," said NSW Ambulance Inspector Markus Zarins.
"Crews did a fantastic job working to free her from the wreckage then intubate her so she could be transported to hospital."
A spokesperson for the NSW Police has said the driver had also sustained head and leg injuries including a possible broken femur from the crash.
She was conscious and in a non-life threatening condition when airlifted.
It came just before another incident on Murrumbidgee River Road near Carrathool that saw a man in his 70s sustain injuries after colliding with a kangaroo.
Conditions on the roads are especially dangerous at the moment because of the weather, NSW Ambulance is urging everyone to take extra care," Inspector Zarins said.
