The Barwon-Darling sharing plan has failed and has not provided an equitable outcome for landholders.

When the Darling River fails to flow and there is no water coming down the Darling River or into Menindee, then the shortfall has to be made up from the Murray River to meet the minimum entitlement flow for South Australia.

The $13 billion dollar question in regards to the Murray Darling Basin plan, all the problems started with universities, educated people in federal Parliament in 2007, whose knowledge in regard to irrigation farming is very little.

Malcom Turnbull used the International Agreement RAMSAR to take control of the state's most valuable assets water (rain) and then in 2008 Labor's Penny Wong purchased buyback of water (250 gigalitres) of the Darling River supplementary water when the station had not received a drop of water in 2002-03.

In 2016 during the middle of the floods, Menindee Lakes were drained.

They were drained not once but twice in four years and no one has taken responsibility, the water (rain) is shared with other states.

In 2017 Water Minister Barnaby Joyce purchased $78 million for 22 gigalitres of lower Darling water entitlement at an average price of $3,561 a megalitre of general security water, that had not derived a drop of water, for three out of four years.

Now how does one sell water (rain) in times of drought?

The Darling River ran dry in March 2018 and what of the environment. The Darling River is the longest river in Australia, 86 per cent of the vast catchment area contributes very little or no regular run off water to the river as it finds its way to South Australia.

It was reported in The Daily Advertiser (March 20, 2020), Rob McBride from Tolarno Station on the lower Darling pointed to the disappearance of 90 per cent of flood water, it is all about corruption, it is as simple as that.

NSW independent MP Justin Field has obtained controversial water sharing plans for the lower Darling River that will not be audited, nor even reviewed for up to 17 years.

This government does not like independent scrutiny because when we have it, everything the government does is found to be dodgy.
