The scheme will see nearly 800,000 half-price flight tickets made available on airline websites, in a bid to increase domestic travel to some of the country's hardest hit regions.

The plan has received a mixed reaction and Griffith's travel agents say they are disappointed to see so much money spent on a tourism scheme which won't benefit them at a time when they are in desperate need of support.

Alf Trefilo, the owner of Let's Travel & Cruise, said he thinks the government have missed the mark.

"I think they got this one wrong," Mr Trefilo said. "The money could have been better allocated to include our sector of the industry."

Most people will likely purchase the tickets directly from airlines, so travel agents are very unlikely to receive any sort of benefit from the scheme.

With JobKeeper wrapping up at the end of this month, the snub comes at a troubling time for travel agents.

"The only way they're going to help us is if they keep supporting us until international travel comes back and the way they could have done that is through JobKeeper but someone up the heirarchy thought different," Mr Trefilo said.

"We're going to have to make some very serious decisions in our business about how we go forward and if we go forward."

Chontell Giannini, the owner of itravel Griffith echoed Mr Trefilo's arguments.

"It's not going to help us at all ... I'm not sure why they overlooked us," Mrs Giannini said.

"We want to keep the expertise that we've got for when things open up again, but without JobKeeper that's going to be really hard."

Mrs Giannini also questioned the effectiveness of the tourism support package.

"If you're getting people that are looking for a $50 ticket to Cairns, are they going to spend the $250 a head it costs to go out to the reef? I don't think so."

"I don't want to rely on government support, I just want a roadmap to tell me what's going to happen.

"I want a roadmap which says when this percentage of people are vaccinated, things will open up."
