How do we change our thinking from being a passive receiver to powerful initiator?
In a world that is seemingly seduced by the power of helplessness and victimhood, it is important to address the elephant in the room - agency and accountability.
What does helplessness and victimhood look like? A simple example might include blaming others for what I don't have or for what "went wrong".
I'm sure you've heard it or maybe you've even said it, "yeah, but it's easy for you, you are brave, not everyone is like you".
Or, "you are lucky, things just seem to land in your lap". In truth, it's rare that anything ever falls into anyone's lap.
IN OTHER NEWS:
Positive change happens when we have agency and hold the power to act.
Agency is about having the capacity to take purposeful initiative and act accordingly.
It is about being invested and having input into the things you do. It can be as simple as making friends or as complex as learning a new skill or speaking out about important issues.
We may feel uncomfortable or out of our depth when we take purposeful initiative. Like anything, it takes time and practice. We are born with tenacity.
When learning to walk we did not fall over for the third time and decide, "this is not for me, it's too hard. I'm not brave like you, I can't do it".
We got up again and again until we achieved it. Now we walk without effort and it feels natural and easy. Agency is powerful.
It gives us control over our decisions, our time and our effort. When we have purposeful initiative we no longer feel helpless and at the mercy of others.
Take control of your life. You never know where it may lead you.
