In a statement, Griffith mayor John Dal Broi said the carpark will make living and working in Griffith easier for residents.
"We recognise the importance of providing parking spaces within the CBD, and the construction of this 49 space carpark will assist in easing the congestion in Banna Avenue," mayor Dal Broi said.
Traffic congestion along Griffith's main road has been a topic of discussion for multiple years, with some residents even calling for traffic lights to replace a contentious roundabout.
Construction of the carpark will take place from 7am to 5pm from Monday to Friday, though some work may occasionally take place on weekends.
Council's director of infrastructure and operations Phil King said there would be "limited" disruption for the community.
Works taking place include pavement construction, sealing, drainage, footpath, kerb and gutter, concrete median works, lighting and landscaping including shade trees.
Construction of the carpark was funded by the Australian Government under the Local Roads and Community Infrastructure Program.
