WHAT'S THE PLAN?
Would someone from GCC kindly advise the thought plan of making Abattoir Road inaccessible from Mallinson Road, as currently traversable, in their wisdom to go ahead with the master plan with no amendments. Why will I have to drive through a paddock and turn right onto Boorga then right again at the crossroad of Scott/Abattoir-Mallinson to access Chambers or Foodworks?

AN OPPORTUNITY MISSED?
It was interesting to read in The Area News of Griffith City Council's ambitions to attract more tourists to our area.
The diversity, vibrancy and uniqueness of Griffith justifies this promotion. Coincidentally, during the same week, the Regional Lifestyle magazine - Autumn Edition - featured Griffith.
Being a subscriber to the magazine I have been used to seeing the mayor have an introduction to begin the articles that cover their area.
Strangely, this did not happen with this edition. The exposure was initiated by several individuals in Griffith who, at their own expense, brought about the promotion.
On reading the magazine I see that the council did invest by having articles and advertisement regarding our wonderful Theatre and Art Gallery. I wonder how much greater the exposure would have been had the council initiated the exposure.
I get the impression that the decision to participate, or not, may have been made by staff rather than councillors. If this is the case then I believe that the councillors have missed a golden opportunity to enhance the wonderful exposure these individuals have gained for Griffith.
The quality of the Lifestyle Magazine surpasses many high cost magazines. The photography is spectacular (just look at the Altina Park section).
The magazine has subscribers in all Australian states and, I believe, sells some 30,000 hard copies each edition - and the circulation keeps increasing and has world wide digital exposure. Being a subscriber to the outback and lifestyle magazines I have read of many interesting places and businesses previously unknown to me.
On visiting some of these places and mentioning the magazine that brought me there, without fail, the business or venue has said what a wonderful boost the article in the respective magazine made to their businesses.
Over time I have met leaders of other councils who have promoted their areas through the Regional Lifestyle magazine and they have all said that the exposure their area received, and the tourist response, was a good investment.
Griffith is a town like no other. The energy and adventurous spirit of so many individuals, the original Italian influence, and all the other cultures subsequently, are developing a town that is unique and, in spite of some very poor politics, will continue to develop and prosper and eventually surpass the larger centres near us.
I compliment the selfless businesses that took the opportunity to show the wonderful vibrant side and the possibilities that a regional area can give.

WILL HISTORY REPEAT?
The threat of net zero carbon by 2050 including agriculture feels like Groundhog Day and will have similar impacts to our MIA and Riverina communities as the Murray Darling Basin Plan has had. Our federal member and Environment Minister Sussan Ley has yet to say agriculture will be exempt, that's alarming considering how devastating the Basin Plan was for our communities and how few outside corporate and very large farmers got meaningful compensation from the government. Many including smaller farmers, town business, homeowners, workers, contractors, tradies and downsized public sector employees - got left behind.
Ms Ley are you going to remove Agriculture from this policy or are you going to let the MIA and Riverina into another horror Groundhog Day?
