Derek Rogers Cup - Griffith v Wagga White
Griffith's Derek Rogers Cup team finished on the losing end of a closely contested match with Wagga White at Collina Oval on Sunday. Wagga's score of 117 was just a little beyond Griffith's batsmen who finished on 107.
Wagga batted first and lost their first wicket off the second ball of the day. They struggled to 4/41 against some tight bowling before a partnership of 37 gave them the chance to post a competitive score. Griffith's bowlers and fielders stuck to their task and kept the Wagga score to 117. Jai Kenny took the bowling honours, capturing 3/18.Joel Victor chimed in with 2 late wickets for 10 runs.
Griffith batsmen never really got on top of the Wagga bowling. Two wickets had fallen by the time the score had reached 7. Ted Files (18) and Connor Moore (10) took the score to 43 before the third wicket fell. Apart from Daniel Mitchell's 12 runs no other batsman got into double figures.
With the score at 10/87, Griffith's last 2 batsmen, Matt Andrighetto (7 not out) and Joel Victor (9) put on a 20 run partnership which nearly got the home side over the line.
Griffith will now have to travel to Wagga next Sunday to contest the final against the side that has just beaten them.
